Sun Motor Cars/Porsche Cars North America named Title Sponsor for Inaugural Mille for MS

With Sun Motor Cars/Porsche Cars North America  named as title sponsor for the first annual Mille for MS, there’s no doubt dozens of local and regional Porsche owners will join the ranks of sports car enthusiasts of all marques participating in the inaugural October 20 road rally aimed at raising awareness and funds for the Central PA Chapter of the National  MS Society.

The Mille for MS is not limited to Porsche models. Owners of pre-war, vintage (1962 and older) and modern sports cars, as well as other exotic cars of all makes and models, are invited to participate.

With rally roundels displayed on the doors, Central Pennsylvanians will easily recognize Mille for MS participants.

“We are definitely proud to be a part of the first Mille for MS and encourage all sports car owners to sign on for this unique fundraiser to help find a cure for MS,” said Sun Motors/Porsche General Manager Steve Baun in announcing the title sponsorship.

The Mille for MS, Presented by Porsche , is patterned after the famed Mille Miglia in Italy, and starts from the Sun Motors Porsche dealership off the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg early on Saturday October 20. The rally then continues with a day-long course along 100-150 miles of public roads, ending at the formal Italian gardens of Felicita Mountain Resort & Spa, north of Harrisburg.

Along the way, dozens of antique, vintage and modern sports cars, as well as exotic cars, will travel to Kings Gap, Carlisle, and Harrisburg, rallying at various checkpoints.

A lunchtime concours-style show at the Carlisle Fairgrounds, home of Carlisle Events, will give the public an opportunity to see the participating cars on display and vote for their favorite in exchange for a $10 contribution to MS.

A Pre-Rally Cocktail Party Friday October 19 at Sun Motors/Porsche for drivers, navigators and sponsors will coincide with a “sneak preview” of the rally field for the public, allowing them to vote for their favorite car by donating to the Central Pa Chapter of the National MS Society.

“We welcome Sun Motors /Porsche as our title sponsor and hosts, and as the first major sponsor to step forward,” said event chairman Michael Pavone. “There are some great fundraisers out there, but we wanted to develop something that went beyond the tradition walk or run. Now, we are actively seeking additional sponsors, participants and volunteers to help make this first Mille for MS a success.”

Rather than racing, the Mille for MS is a road rally where participants drive their cars on public roads, reaching various checkpoints in times allotted.

All participants follow local and state speed limits and other vehicular rules and regulations, with the goal of reaching the various checkpoints and finishing as near to the allotted time window as possible. Navigators riding with the drivers remind them of speed limits and directions throughout the meticulously-planned route.
