July 2016 Young Person of the Month

Sean New, volunteer with Caitlin's Smiles and nominee for the United Way Volunteer of the Year

Please tell us about yourself.

I'm 17 years old and will begin my senior year at Cumberland Valley High School this fall. I'm the social media director at Hello Gorgeous in Camp Hill. I also run my own small business, Sean New Productions. I make videos for businesses for their websites and other social media platforms.

What are your interests?
I started a club at school called Current Streaming. Students have lively debates about current events while respecting differing views. I'm also into fitness and enjoy working out at the gym.

Who is your biggest Inspiration?
Donald Trump! He became my inspiration ever since I stayed at one of his properties at a young age and decided that I wanted to get into real estate because of him. Through hard work and determination, he proved that anything is possible – even becoming president!

How do you give back to the community?
I started volunteering at a young age. I really enjoy helping others. Over the years, I volunteered for a number of organizations including Caitlin's Smiles, Dining for Diakon, Susquehanna Service Dogs, PAATH15 and the Harrisburg Symphony. I was a summer camp counselor in Camp Hill. I'm also a teen mentor for TOPS. Its a community soccer program for kids with mental and physical challenges.

Give us one word that best describes you.

What is the best part of your day?
Enjoying time and relaxing with family and friends.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced?
Pre-calculus! It was grueling, but with Mr. Yohe's help, I did well in the class.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Creating my own business, Sean New Productions.

If you could make a bucket list now what are the top 5 things you would put on it?
1. Visit Dubai
2. Missions trip
3. Skydive
4. See the Pope
5. Dinner with Donald Trump

If you could somehow send a message into the future, what advice would you give your 40-year-old self?
Always stay true to yourself. Don't back down to anyone or any situation. Stay determined but always be kind and generous.
