Shannon Sylte is an artist, landscape designer, and visionary. A pioneer of self-directed education in permaculture design — a branch of regenerative ecological design that focuses on developing harmonious, symbiotic relationships with the earth — Shannon has designed the Accomac Inn restaurant's garden and is currently designing several community gardens in York (the Art Farm) and Harrisburg (the Peffer Street Edible Forest Garden), as well as illustrating a series of informative publications on the basics of permaculture design.

It seemed fitting that children’s author and playwright Sandy Asher of Lancaster would create and organize an event called Pennsylvania Authors in the Public Library. After all, the Lancaster Public Library is in her neighborhood, she’s a member and enthusiastic supporter of the Lancaster Literary Guild, plus she presents at an annual children’s literature festival in Warrensburg, Mo. When she read a report that her local library was in need of children’s programming, it was as if a literary lightbulb went off in her head.

She uses a wide variety of materials and often finds innovative ways to create her pieces with non-traditional materials. Her primary subject matter is the human form, in particular the female figure. Through this exploration, she strives to capture the complexity of emotional landscapes of her subjects.
