EXPERIENCE SPRINGTIME AT HERSHEY GARDENS

Hershey Gardens opens daily for the 2014 season on Saturday, April 5, at 9 a.m. The 23-acre botanical garden, which features The Children’s Garden, various themed gardens and Swan Lake, is celebrating springtime with a variety of activities. Highlighted events for spring include:
·        Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m. – noon (Education Center)
“Grow Your Own Vegetables and Herbs: A Soup for All Seasons” – Healthy Living Kitchen creator Michelle Wohlfarth will present the class, which explores various types of garden vegetables and herbs that can be grown to create a “Soup for All Seasons.” Participants will learn about seed selection, planting, harvesting and cooking. Vegetables will be provided for attendees to prepare and package so they can create their own “Soupe Au Pistou” at home. The workshop concludes with participants’ enjoying a delicious bowl of soup. ·        Saturday, April 5, 1 – 3 p.m.  
“Planning Your Own Kitchen Garden” – Garden experts will help participants plan the perfect kitchen garden and provide instruction on soil preparation, plant selection and caring for plants the natural way. Students will receive graph paper to plot their own garden measurements. The class is $35; $30 for Hershey Gardens members. ·        Sunday, April 20, 6:30 a.m.
Easter Sunrise Service – Join the Hershey Ministerium for a non-denominational service on Easter morning. Free admission prior to 8 a.m.  

·        Sunday, April 27, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Gardenfest – Free admission to Hershey Gardens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., local organizations will offer information on various community and garden programs.

·        Late Spring
30,000 colorful tulips will be in bloom – Check www.HersheyGardens.org for updates.

·        Friday, May 23, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Opening day of The Butterfly House – featuring more than 300 North American butterflies.  

·        Friday, May 23, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Opening day of “Four Surreal Seasons” – an exhibit featuring unique artwork created by students from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design.  The exhibit runs through Sunday, September 28, 2014.    

Returning for the duration of the 2014 season is Great Garden Adventure, which offers kids the opportunity to explore and discover The Children's Garden through a fun, interactive guide that contains clues to helps them solve garden mysteries. Successful adventurers will select their reward: a sturdy, child-sized gardening tool to continue their adventure at home. Best suited for ages 4 to 11. $9.95 per guide; $5.95 for members.

Eight summer camps for kids and a variety of scout programs, adult education workshops and family-friendly events round out this year’s calendar of events.
