NEW FARMERS MARKET COMING TO DOWNTOWN HERSHEY

April 7, 2015, Hershey, PA— Fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese, and other local specialties will soon be available through a new artisanal farmers market presented by the Downtown Hershey Association. Market on Chocolate will be held every Saturday morning from May through September, 9 am to 1 pm in front of the Hershey Post Office on Chocolate Avenue and will give people the opportunity to purchase local products and enjoy farm-to-table produce.

Shoppers will be able to buy local goods including produce, meats and seafood, infused olive oils, hand crafted spices, fresh bread, homemade cookies, handmade candles, cold press juices and fruit sorbets, freshly-prepared meals, all natural dog treats and high quality art designed by local residents.

Market on Chocolate will begin Saturday, May 23, with a grand opening held June 6, featuring local artisans, hand-made crafts and children’s activities. Many local vendors and artisans have already signed on for the summer, but the Downtown Hershey Association continues to seek qualified applications. Booths will be 10 X 10 in size and all vendors will be fully licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Market on Chocolate will close for the season on Saturday, September 26.

The Cocoa Beanery on Research Boulevard currently hosts a farmers’ market on Thursday evenings. According to Wendy Lubell, Market on Chocolate director, several vendors from the Thursday market will also be on hand at the market on Saturdays.

“Saturday mornings are a great time for people to slow down, enjoy a sense of community, grab a bite, and shop for the week,” stated Lubell. “Market on Chocolate gives people another option and enhances what is already taking place with farm-to-table food in our community.”
