Sprung From the Tongue

Stephen Michael Haas, a Harrisburg-based artist who is deeply involved in the local art's scene and has worked with the renowned artist Wayne White, is debuting his latest work, Sprung From the Tongue, at The MakeSpace, 1916 3rd Street in Harrisburg, Pa. on Friday, January 16th, at 5 p.m.

Sprung From the Tongue is Haas' effort to revise our understanding of an

art exhibit. His aim is to transform a traditional, silent, white-walled affair, into a much louder theatrical attraction. He utilizes larger-than-life sculptures, vibrant paintings and other strange pieces to create an artistic "mad house." The show will also feature ambient live music, a brief speech by Haas and light refreshments.

You can see more of Haas' artwork in mural form on the side of Little Amps Coffee Roasters at the intersections of Green and Muench streets in Uptown Harrisburg. He has also done mural work for local businesses in Lancaster and Harrisburg. This past summer, Haas put together his first book entitled You Can Try but You Can Also Not Try. The book was about the struggle people go through from day-to-day

and all the trivial things that seem to make us who we are. His work was also recently featured on the January cover of The Burg.
