History, Shopping and Charm - Montgomery County

Located just a quick 90-minute drive from Harrisburg, Valley Forge has perhaps suffered a bit from its close proximity to Philadelphia. But Valley Forge provides its own special pleasures, and to ignore them is to miss some of this state’s greatest treasures.

Luminaria Festival/Arts – San Antonio

San Antonio is a Mecca for art aficionados year round, but this month things really kick up a notch. For nearly three decades, March has been feted as Contemporary Art Month in the city, and other doings typically include the Clogged Caps International Aerosol Arts Festival, a three-day celebration of graffiti art in which nearly 100 “writers” come from across the globe to create massive, colorful murals at designated sites around town

Zebras, Crayons and Hugs: A visit to Jamaica outside of the resorts.

Getting off the plane, Jamaica seems like any other resort area. Some of our team of 14 have been to Jamaica for relaxation and renewal, but this trip will be something different. Eggs, Rice and... Fish Sauce?

For years I considered fish to be the most unappetizing food in the world. Of course I said, "I'll have that."

Welcome to New Year's Eve, Mobile, Alabama

It’s a minute to midnight – 40,000 hooting, hollering revelers are gathered at the corner of St. Joseph and St. Francis Streets, awaiting the tantalizingly gradual descent of a giant, 600-pound electronic MoonPie from the 34-story RSA BankTrust building. In the meantime, the world’s largest edible version of the beloved chocolate marshmallow sandwich, weighing 55 pounds and measuring 40 inches in diameter and six inches in height, is about to be served at a luxe ball across town. Welcome to New Year’s Eve, Mobile, Alabama style.

Steeped in Holiday Magic - Branson, Mo.

It’s Veteran’s Day at the Welk Theater (welkresorts.com/branson, 417-337-SHOW) in Branson, Missouri. Onstage, Tony Orlando – older and heavier than in his television days, but as golden-voiced as ever – is crooning America to a roomful of proud soldiers. He’s already serenaded them with his classic anthem Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree, and now in the midst of Neil Diamond’s 1980 hit, he pauses, asking them to stand up and receive the applause of their grateful countrymen.

Great Smoky Mountains

Rising along the Tennessee-North Carolina border, the Great Smoky Mountains are a national treasure. A place of primordial forests deep, of cascading waterfalls that glow, as if lit from within, with the sun’s rays, they beckon Americans with a subtle but sure song.
